Can anyone recommend a good beginners book on embedding JavaScript in PDFs?

I already know JavaScript.

I need to know how to take a PDF document developed by others
at work and embed JavaScript to implement a primitive digital
rights management system.  In other words I want to call the
API of the PDF host document and find out what machine this
is running on or else be able to read the filesystem for a
license key and "fetch a URL" that would report the PDF
had been copied from another machine.

Maybe this is already possible in PDF.  I don't know anything
about PDF.

What book should I start with to come up to speed on PDF?
I don't care about generated PDF content programatically
however.

Thanks!

Many people have tried to implement DRM with JavaScript, but it is a non-starter.

Consider that anyone can turn off JavaScript (indeed, some people are forbidden from turning it on), and your JavaScript is not too difficult to view.

Using URLs to report things would be a breach of privacy, so Acrobat will ask before connecting...

I don't think you can find the current host, due to sandboxing, so I may be wrong.

There are not many because Acrobat uses just a subset of the JavaScript and has some specific objects and methods unique to Acrobat.
