I know (or think I do) that you cannot create popups in PDF the same way you can in HTML, but is there a way to simulate it, using a combination of javascript and hidden elements?

For example, say you have a bar chart and you want each bar to be click-able and when clicked to pop up a graphic that shows numerical details. I was asked by a coworker if I had any suggestions on just such a project, and the only thing I could come up with was to have the graphics be extra pages in the pdf, and just draw links around the bars that go to those pages, with a BACK button on the page to return to the bar chart.

But that's messy. It would be nice to simulate popups. Is it possible?

(Hello to anyone who's been here for years, btw. You might remember me from many years ago. I was dug.)

Yes, it's possible. The way you do it is by creating a button form field, to which you can assign an image. You then add a script to your other form field element that shows the image button on MouseEnter and hides it on MouseExit.
