I am fully aware that what I'm going to ask is both weird and probably not possible. Nevertheless, here goes:

CAVEATS:
The Form Field Text Properties (that little formatting toolbar that you get from CTRL+E) is not a viable solution. Also, this MUST remain a PDF. I cannot change file formats or switch to an online/hosted option.

BACKGROUND – Creating an easy-to-use PDF form with high-end text formatting options:
  1. I am authoring an interactive PDF that has numerous form fields that accept Rich Text.
  2. The form is being authored in InDesign CC 2018 and the form is being designed ONLY for Acrobat Reader (mobile & tablet access are not a consideration at this time).
  3. If I copy a working link from MS Word and paste it into the PDF's form field that it will paste as a working URL (link).
  4. However, if I type in the URL text (not paste it from Word), I have to select the text, press CTRL+E to bring up the Form Field Text Properties dialogue and use it to create a link.
WISH LIST (doubt it's possible)
  • I would love to put a small WSYIWIG toolbar at the top of each form field and let the user format their text with bullets, numbers, bold, italics, and links.
  • Wouldn't need image support.
  • (Having full HTML support in that form field would be amazing.)
As I said, this is almost certainly not possible, but there's no harm in asking.

MINIMUM GOAL (hope this is possible)
  • Is there a way to use Javascript to parse the form field and convert the text into working links? This could be done with a button or an event (onBlur, maybe?)

Thanks in advance for any help and alternative ways to approach this problem.

It might be possible to add some custom formatting to add the bullet point for each new line.

That's not possible, unfortunately.
