Hi there,

I'm having a hard time finding what I need in a software without having to pay hundreds of dollars.

I've read too many horror stories about customer service with 2 companies to even want to go in that direction & the Corel product doesn't do what I want.

I want software that when you turn the Word doc into a PDF, it will keep the hyper link that's in Word & move it to the PDF version of that doc.

So far no one does that & I can't believe it.

If the software could also allow for editing & making notes on the PDF file that would be great & if it could also create editable regions both where they insert the answers, but can't save it, as well as insert the answers & save the PDF file with the answers saved.

Thanks

Michelle

Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Professional can perform these task if you properly configure the Adobe PDF Maker to create the links, bookmarks, and convert Word notes. They will even use the MS Office document's properties when that option is selected. This is different than a 'printer' that prints to real or virtual paper.

You could also try OpenOffice.org.

Nitro PDF is also a good product.

There are many products with a 30 day free trial.

As I already stated, I'm not looking to spend a lot of money & I'm sure Acrobat is way over my budget.

I was considering Nitro, but they have a lot of negative reviews on Amazon, so I haven't moved forward. I already used their 30 day free trial & I didn't like how it grabs every PDF whether I want it to or not.

OO is a Word substitute, are you saying it creates PDFs?

Thanks

Yes.

See the http://www.openoffice.org/product/writer.html - description of Writer .

"Make your documents freely available with WRITER's HTML export to the web, or export in MediaWiki format for publishing to wikis. Publish in Portable Document Format (.pdf) to guarantee that what you write is what your reader sees. The PDF export feature in OpenOffice.org provides a huge set of formatting and security options; so that PDF files can be customized for many different scenarios, including ISO standard PDF/A files."

You can even create forms with fields in OOO.org and have the form fields transfer directly to the PDF form.

As for the Amazon reviews, I would not solely rely upon one source for reviews. I have used Nitro PDF with no issues.

Hi,

Oh, sorry, if I have to use OO to create the doc then I'm not interested. I thought I could just use it to create the PDF part.

I have had people use OO when I was using Word & we had issues, so that won't work for me as I'm not prepared to start getting rid of Word & use OO to replace it.

Reviews - Not talking about just the software, but their tech support. How they treat customers, etc.

I didn't have a problem when I spoke to them, but I was dealing with sales, & companies are always nice when they want your money. How they treat you afterward is the true test of the character of a company.

I'll think about it

Thank you

Michelle

Ok, someone new responded to this thread & his post has been deleted?

Why is that? Unless I'm going insane & just can't see it LOL

Hi Michelle,

Some spam was posted by a new user and it has been deleted, along with the offending users account. Sorry for any confusion.

Cheers,
- Rowan.

Hi Rowan,

Ok, it just didn't read spam to me. Smile

On another note, I called Nitro yesterday, no one answered the phone which I found very strange. I didn't think they were a one-man operation.

I left a message & still no return phone call. We'll see if they get back to me by the end of business today.

I guess I still have their trial software on my computer, because I went to PDF the word doc & it put their logo at the bottom of every page which of course I can't have.

But what's more important, is that the hyper link didn't stay intact.

So either that's b/c their software doesn't do that, or only the professional version has that feature.

P.S. & I also re-read the Amazon reviews. There were quite a few people who said their software crashes ALL the time & once they buy & there's problems, there's no customer service.

Those things matter to me.

I have been dealing with activating the software for 3 days.
I see no solution in sight as of now.

When I submit a problem I get answer the following day.
Then when I answer their response I do not get a response from them until the next day.
It seems to me that they only answer questions once a day.
Some support.

Hi Michelle

First of all I'd like to apologise for the experience you have had with Nitro Support. We pride ourselves on being customer focused and attempt to return all phone calls and emails within a designated time frame. We certainly aren't a "one-man operation" and don't hide any of our support details. You can contact me 24/7 at Andrew.Holmes@nitropdf.com and I would be more than happy to help out.

We have had some issues lately which have absorbed some resources so our support has lapsed but rest assured we're getting on top of this.

This Site: http://community.nitropdf.com/nitropdf/products/nitropdf_nitro_pdf_professional

Is an open Community forum where people can discuss anything they with to about Nitro and we attempt to have a resource on this daily responding to concerns that users may have. There aren't many software companies that allow or supply this kind of forum.

Again I sincerely apologise for your experience but as I said, we are here 24/7 (we have Support teams in Australia and the USA) and feel free to personally contact me anytime.  :-)

Thanks & Regards
