Is is possible to create an Adobe AIR desktop application that can access the Acrobat IAC API?

Currently, I have several Visual Basic applications. Each one does essentially the same thing: You select a collection of TEX files, press the Build button, the application then compiles each TEX file in turn (under options selectable through the visual basic form), converts the result to PS (using a dvi-to-ps converter called dvips), then uses IAC to call distiller to create PDF, then accesses the file system to move the finished file to a designated folder. Repeat until all TEX files in the last has been processed.  This app only runs on windows. I would like to make it available to more platforms through an AIR app that essentially does the same thing. However, the period of development for IAC ended OH, about version 9.  There is no tie-in to AIR, for example.

Any ideas?
